More than 150 women journalists issue a statement on digital abuse

Pakistani women journalists have issued a strong statement on digital abuse, highlighting the issues they have been facing, and issuing a list of demands to the government and political parties to take action.

The statement, titled “Together Against Digital Abuse,” issued on September 7 2020, gives a detailed account of the sort of harassment that women journalists are typically facing including trolling and abuse on social media, accusations of peddling “fake news” and even attacks on their family members through doctored photographs etc.  The journalists pointed out that complaints to the political parties and the government have met with indifference.  They demand that the government and political parties issue codes of conduct for public institutions as well as media cells of political parties, investigate networks carrying out concerted campaigns and process complaints lodged with the FIA efficiently, among other things.
